ColdFusion and OOP - A Match Made in Heaven or a Long Road to Hell?
Well, now I've done it. If I had not sufficiently alienated both Adobe and the ColdFusion community leaders, I participated in a discussion at the suggestion of my good friend, Clark Valberg.
Having read my blogpost from a few weeks back in which I expressed my concern that ColdFusion was losing its way, Clark decided that it would make for an interesting podcast to have Brian Kotek (as an able proponent of OO in CF orthodoxy), Ben Nadel (as an honest developer looking for answers) and me (as a reluctant heretic) talk about OO in ColdFusion.
You know those cartoons where the good angel sits on one shoulder while a devil on the other tries to win the soul of the hero? Well, that was us: Brian, complete in horns and pitchfork regalia sat on Ben's left shoulder. I, the cherubic presence on Ben's right -- with Ben there to ask questions and help explore the topic.
I want to thank all involved. I thought it was terrific and the only sad note was seeing that Brian has sunk into utter depression after losing the match so badly. In fact, you can read his admission of complete defeat here. Brian's a friend -- and it grieves me that his muddled thinking had to run headlong into actual logic. As Gordon Ramsay might say, "Sad, really."
Clark has set up a Google group where we hope further conversation will take place. To that end, I'm disabling comments on this post, but will certainly be participating in the Google group!
