Ready to Learn Ruby on Rails?
I've heard from quite a few programmers who are interested in putting their toe in the RoR waters. It is a big step -- and to make that as non-stressful as possible, I'm going to hold a free two-hour online "Intro to Ruby on Rails for ColdFusion Programmers" training on September 22 from 12.30 to 2.30 Eastern US time.
The training will consist of a brief overview of how Rails works, followed by the building of an actual application. If you are at all like me, I think you'll be shocked by just how much work can be done very quickly with RoR. So, here's a cheap (cheap as in free!) way to learn whether the RoR phenomenon is real or just more hype. The online limit for the software I'm using is 100 people. If you're interested, sign up at...

ROR is no longer buzz word compliant
I would probably sign up for this RoR training if I didn't have a time conflict. Thanks anyway, Hal.
The way I see it, the more languages that you're exposed to, the better you become as a programmer. I'm very excited to see how Hal bridges some of the CF -> Rails gaps that tripped me up.
Learning something new doesn't mean you're leaving CF (or whatever your "current technology" is).
Learn as much as possible. Make yourself marketable.
Personally, I love CF. Always have, always will. But I'm looking to learn Ruby, Python, and a few other languages. I have no intention of "leaving" CF, or it's community.
I hate to whip out a tired old cliche, but when the only tool you have is a hammer...
(and obviously, this doesn't only apply to CF developers...)
Comments like nako's should be simply deleted, as they don't aggregate in any sort.
like Ray, I also disagree with some of your previous posts (in a respectful way though), but this is just a great way to get your credibility back (at least with me) ;-)
Jokes apart, well done for the effort, and I'm looking forward to it :-)

It was just enough to spark an interest in Rails and show off some of it's awesome features.
Excellent intro to RoR.
Thanks, take care
I totally missed this training you ran. I've been looking into RoR lately and am gutted to have missed this. Any chance of you running it again for 2011?
